SHiN Recommends: El Cazador de la Bruja

El Cazador de la BrjuaLet’s start this off with one of my all time favorite shows El Cazador de la Bruja (the Witch Hunter). This is the third and final installment of Bee Train’s girls-with-guns series. In all honesty, I never tried watching the first two spiritual predecessors Noir and Madlax because, uh, well… I didn’t like the art style of Noir because it’s the same art used in Onegai Teacher/Twins. It discouraged me a bit. But I did love the opening theme though. For Madlax, I actually wasn’t aware it existed until I looked it up. I may watch them… Eventually…

A fateful encounter between Ellis, a fugitive girl with amnesia, a troubled past, and supernatural powers, and Nadie, a feisty bounty hunter, leads to the two of them traveling south together in search of the key to unlocking Ellis’s past. The only clues they have are a mysterious stone given to Ellis by a fortune teller she was staying with, and Ellis’ notion that she has to go south.

El Cazador did some many things right like the god-like OST, interesting characters, good humor, interesting stories, and great atmosphere. It’s lengthy as well at 26 episodes. That’s a very rare number nowadays. The gunfights are great too!

Aside from the aforementioned god-like OST, The Nadie and Ellis duo is my most favorite part. The developing relationship between Nadie and Ellis grows at a steady, realistic pace in each episode. Ellis is distant towards Nadie and Nadie was just in it for the job. After shit starting to hit the fan, the two slowly teamed up to deal with every situation like eating those delicious tacos. There was never a dull moment.

Tacos!

Now for the big question — Is it yuri-centric? Well, no. But if you set your yuri goggles at the right frequency, you’ll see some subtle subtext.

Nadie x EllisR-Really! It’s very subtle! And no, I’m not telling you what episode this scene came from. And I’m not going to tell you where to find the ONSEN episode.

Should you watch this? Well, you should! That’s why I’m recommending El Cazador de la Bruja to you! This show is perfect for me and I enjoyed every minute of it. If you’re looking for some more involving story that is not centered around the everyday lives of girls, no convoluted edgy crap, and just want to have a good time, then here is your answer!

Watch it! Go! Now!

P.S.

The English dub is fine too.
